PUTRAJAYA — April 9, 2020: The last 24 hours saw the number of new cases drop to 109, the lowest daily total since March 24, when it was 106. The overall total for the country is now 4,228.
Two new deaths were reported to bring the total to 67, which means a fatality rate of 1.58% of the total.
The number discharged was 121, which means that 1,608 patients or 38% have recovered since the first cases were confirmed on January 25.
According to Health director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, 72 patients are in intensive care, with 43 on ventilators.
One of the two latest deaths was a 59-year-old Malaysian man who also had autoimmune and other chronic diseases. He was also a participant of the Sri Petaling tabligh event.
The other was a 23-year-old Malaysian woman who had thyroid. She was a close contact of two other patients and was linked to the Kuching church cluster. She was the youngest known patient in Malaysia known to have succumbed to the infection.
