KUALA LUMPUR – June 24, 2020: Actress Emelda Rosmila is suing fellow celebrity Zarina Anjoulie for more than RM1 million in damages along with a public apology over the latter’s alleged defamatory remarks against her on social media.
In a statement issued by her lawyer, Fauzi & Naseer Co, Emelda claimed that Zarina had defamed her several times in a Telegram group and on Facebook, where she was called a “batu api” (instigator) by Zarina.
The duo’s controversy erupted in April after Zarina lashed out at Malaysian actors’ guild, Seniman, over its demand for a special Covid-19 relief measures for those in the entertainment industry from the government.
In an already deleted video on Facebook, Zarina had allegedly implored the public to “attack” Emelda’s Instagram account as she was one of the many actors who came up with the supposedly “entitled proposal” voiced by Seniman.
“The allegation was clearly malicious. It had prompted and created public misconceptions. Zarina had rallied the public to report and attack Emelda’s Instagram account for reasons the latter did not understand,” read the statement by Emelda’s lawyers.
Apart from her Facbook and Instagram accounts, Emelda is also demanding Zarina to publish her apology in newspapers.
Emelda has also filed for an injunction to prevent Zarina or her agents to re-publish the latter’s allegedly defamatory remarks.
