KUALA LUMPUR — June, 28 2018: Acting Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi has met with lawyers to discuss the next step following the decision by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to freeze several bank accounts.

After the meeting tonight, Zahid issued a statement saying that he will prove that Umno’s money is legitimate and not part of any money-laundering activity. The move by MACC is believed to be part of its investigation into 1MDB.

It is learnt that the accounts which have been belong to the party headquarters and Selangor Umno, with a few more expected to follow.

Zahid also commented that threats and abuse by any government in a democratic country is not the way to govern, while expressing the hope that Umno members will stand by him to ensure Umno’s survival.
