KUALA LUMPUR — Nov. 9, 2018: The Umno supreme council has decided to allow Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to continue as party president while he awaits trial on 45 charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and bribery.
After a council meeting tonight Zahid said the dispute with the party leadership regarding his position had been resolved.
Previously, Umno Youth had suggested that Zahid should take leave of office until the final outcome of the cases against him.
“A full stop was placed on differences of opinion. We should work together to translate the Umno leadership unity at all levels and reject any effort to divide the party from within or outside Umno,” he said after chairing the meeting.
Zahid said the Umno tour which is currently touring the country will continue to explain on the direction of the party as an effective and constructive opposition group. — Bernama
