KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 2018 : Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been elected as the new Umno president, according to the latest status in the Twitter account of of the Umno polls 2018 conducted by the party’s election secretariat today.
“Officially Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi @Zahid_Hamidi is the seventh UMNO president.
“Congratulations to carrying out the job to Datuk Seri. for the sake of religion, race and country.” said the posting on the Twitter account.
In the party’s election today, Zahid, who was previously party’s vice-president executing the duties of party president, obtained 93 votes, ahead of the two main challengers, namely formerYouth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar who garnered 51 votes and Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (23 votes).
For the post of deputy president, Negeri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was elected after defeating his challenger, information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
