Zahid case: Road tax, insurance for vehicles paid by Yayasan Akalbudi

KUALA LUMPUR — Dec. 9, 2019: Payment for the road tax and insurance for 20 vehicles belonging to former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi amounting RM107,509.55 in 2015 was paid by his Yayasan Akalbudi.

The payment was received via cheques from Zahid’s personal assistant, Major Mazlina Mazlan, with the cheques written under the name of Allianz General Insurance agent, Ahmad Izhan Abd. Rashid.

Izhan appeared as a prosecution witness today in Zahid’s trial on 47 charges for money laundering, criminal breach of trust and corruption millions of ringgit belonging to Akalbudi.

In reaction to a question by the defence, Izhan concurred that the ink used to sign and write the cheques was different from each other, and further agreeing that the cheques were presigned.

He nevertheless knew that the cheques were presigned as Mazlina had told him she would get Zahid to sign blank cheques on which she would then fill up the particulars.
