Zahid case: Almost RM1.3 million spent via credit cards in two years

KUALA LUMPUR — Dec. 2, 2019: Former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi went on a shopping spree in several countries across the globe and spent almost RM1.3 million using four credit cards over two years from January 2014.

The shopping was done in the United Arab Emirates, United States, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Ukraine, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, China and at home, here in KL.

Some of the spending was charged to cards held by his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis and the shopping by both included that at high-end designer labels Louis Vuitton, Brioni and Burberry.

The information on the transactions using four credit cards and supplementary cards was given in court today by AmBank Berhad officer Yeoh Eng Leong during Zahid’s trial on 47 charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds totalling millions of ringgit.

Shopping in New York in June 2015 totalled RM215,542.69. At a Stefano Ricci America store, it cost RM130,313.20 while the one at Brioni came to RM45,095.60. Other transactions included for RM26,893.33 at Burberry in Kowloon and RM18,568.66 at a Louis Vuitton store in Australia. 

The trial before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah continues tomorrow.
