KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 2018 : Tan Sri Annuar Musa has been appointed the new Umno secretary-general, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
Zahid said the treasurer’s post would be held by Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor while Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah was appointed as Information chief and Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan as executive secretary.
“A total of 11 leaders have been appointed as Umno Supreme Council members for the 2018-2021 session. They are Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim, Shahril Sufian Hamdan and Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi,” he said in a statement issued here today.
He also announced the names of the chairman, deputy chairman and secretary of the respective state liaison bodies.
Zahid said this was UMNO’s first step towards reform to remain relevant in the country’s political scene.
“In line with the new (party) elections, I as the president of Umno am announcing the list of Umno Supreme Council members appointed in accordance with Clause 9.2.8 of the Umno Constitution and also appoint Umno Liaison chiefs and leaders in the respective states.
“I am committed to championing the interests of the country along with Umno’s new leadership in accordance with the Malaysian Constitution and the Umno Charter, as contained in Umno’s Constitution itself,” he said.
Zahid said the contest for all posts in Umno was unprecedented, and showed that the party was now more open and democratic. – Bernama
