KUALA LUMPUR – November 8, 2016: The Red Shirts movement has vowed to assemble at the same venue or venues where the Bersih 5.0 supporters will meet come November 19.
Its leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos told The Mole that he will mobilise about 300,000 supporters in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka if Bersih proceeds with its plan.
“As stated earlier, the Red Shirts exist to pin down Bersih. There will be no red if there is no yellow.
“We will be wherever Bersih is. If they assemble within the vicinity pf the public square, we will be there too,” declared Jamal.
He further made clear that his movement is ready for the possibility of a clash with Bersih.
“We are ready to do anything to stop these liars, deceivers and slanderers from disseminating stories against the government. They (Bersih) are only driven by political motives to instigate hatred in people.”
Jamal, however, said his Red Shirts are putting the responsibility to the police to ensure the safety of his supporters.
Bersih last week unveiled the route for its rally, which will end at Dataran Merdeka.
On Nov 19, participants are expected to meet at Dataran Maybank off Jalan Bangsar and at Masjid Negara before converging at Dataran Merdeka.
The group’s chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah today refused to comment further but assured that it will comply with the KL City Hall’s order and will not enter the square.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police will issue a statement on this soon.
