BN opts for “old hand” for Tanjung Piai by-election

PONTIAN — Oct. 31, 2019: Barisan Nasional has picked former MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election next month.

Wee was the Tanjung Piai MP from 2008 to 2018 and Pekan Nenas assemblyman from 2004 to 2008. He ceased being an MP after losing last year’s general elections to Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Dr. Md. Farid Md. Rafiq. The by-election follow’s Farid’s death.

Pakatan Hara[an’s choice this time is Karmaine Sardin of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. The 66-year-old architect is the party’s Tanjung Piai division chief who was a teacher and architect with Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

PH has announced Tanjung Piai Bersatu Division head Karmaine Sardini as its candidate, while Gerakan named its deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam as the candidate for the by-election.

Nomination day is November 2, early voting on Nov. 12 and polling on Nov. 16.
