KUALA LUMPUR. April 3 2018 : The water restructuring issue as well as change of government in Selangor, resulted in the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant and Distribution System (LRAL2) project being postponed several times, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany said difficulties in obtaining approval from local authorities had also caused delays in the completion of the project.

“Initially, the LRAL2 project, which began in 2008, was scheduled for completion in 2014. However, due to the water restructuring issue and change of state government, this project has been postponed several times. The delay caused all prior approvals obtained to be reapplied for due to changes in policy, terms and personnel,” he said.

He was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin on the status of LRAL2, and why the project was still not completed.

He said the LRAL2 project was divided into three phases, with the First Phase expected to be completed this year, covering the construction of the Water Treatment Plant which would supply 565 million litres of water per day to the Hulu Langat Reservoir. — Bernama
