KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 2018 : Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has emphasised that her recent visit to Julau, Sarawak was in her capacity as the deputy prime minister, thus rubbishing claims that she was there to campaign for the PKR election.
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the PKR president said she was originally scheduled to visit Sarawak after the party election, but the election date was postponed to Nov 10.
“I was not campaigning. Who am I campaigning for? I am not contesting, it’s not even a general election.
“It is an opposition state and we were there to show that the federal government has no discrimination,” she told the media after a visit to Sekolah Tunas Bakti, Sungai Besi, here.
Yesterday, PKR central leadership committee member Latheefa Koya, said the visit was poorly-timed as it happened ahead of the PKR final voting process in the state.
Latheefa noted that during the visit Dr Wan Azizah was seen to be accompanied by Larry Sng Wei Shien who had previously announced his support for PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli.
She claimed that Dr Wan Azizah’s visit to Julau involved the use of her official post in the cabinet, government assets and she also announced an allocation of RM100,000 to build roads in the area.
According to Latheefa, the announcement was made in the presence of Wei Shien who is contesting for the Julau division chief post and a post in the party’s central committee. – Bernama
