TANAH MERAH, Feb 4 2017 : Cooperation between Umno and Pas in forging unity among the ummah should involve the participation of members at all levels in both parties, said Kelantan Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said unity of the ummah at the grassroot was crucial in efforts to unite and further strengthen unity of the Muslims in the country.

“It is meaningless for us at the highest level to cooperate, but we forget to set aside the differences at the grassroot, at the village level, there is still animosity,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after opening a leadership course for Kelantan under-graduates here today.

The programme was attended by about 200 graduates from several public universities. Also present was Kelantan Graduates Association (Himsak) president Mohd Faizal Daud.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when flagging off the ‘Food Flotilla for Myanmar’, a humanitarian aid mission for the Rohingya in Myanmar, said the mission also reflected the solidarity of the ‘ummah’ in Malaysia as representatives from Umno and Pas were also in the mission.

Also present at the event was Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Mustapa, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, said the presence of Umno and Pas leaders at the event yesterday reflected the sincerity of both parties to cooperate in upholding Islam.
