KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 2020: Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied that the party is demanding the post of deputy prime minister to be part of the new government.
He was responding to rumors circulating in cyberspace that he personally wanted the number two post in the government.
Zahid said Barisan Nasional (BN) had submitted the names of several of its members of parliament to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for consideration for Cabinet posts.
“However, it is the prime minister’s prerogative to decide who to appoint based on certain considerations according to the list provided by Umno and BN,” he said after his graft trial at the High Court here today.
Muhyiddin had pledged to appoint Cabinet members from among those of integrity and calibre.
