KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept 29  2018 : The Umno leadership has been reminded not to be hasty in forging an official cooperation with PAS, without first studying the matter.

Umno Youth vice-chief Shahril Hamdan said this was to avoid the party from being labelled as “ultra Malay” , thus further distancing the party from non-Malay voters, despite Umno being known as a inclusive party and did not neglect the rights of the non-Malays.

“The reality is, be it Umno or Pas, we are capable of winning and be a government with support of hardcore party members.

“The fact is we have to find ways of winning the votes of the Malays who support Pakatan Harapan and also the non-Malays,” he said when winding-up his speech at the Umno Youth conference here today.

Shahril said Umno should continue to portray the Malaysian image .

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party should be conservative and progressive in its struggle.

Umno would continue to champion Islam and the Malay and bumiputera agenda, as well as think of new approaches to restore the people’s support for the party, he added. – Bernama
