KUALA LUMPUR – December 11, 2017: Umno has rubbished a rumour that delegates who attended its 71st annual assembly last week were given expensive wristwatches as a token for their loyalty to president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

In a WhatsApp message to The Mole, Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab. Rauf Yusoh wrote to say the story was false.

The rumour went viral yesterday, after a photo of a supposed Tissot wristwatch with the words “Setia Kawan PM Najib” (Loyal to PM Najib) engraved onto its back was widely shared on social media.

It is believed that the opposition mouth-piece, Malaysia Chronicle, was the first to report the rumour.

News portal Berita Daily quoted Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohd. Razlan Muhammad Rafii as being in the dark about it.

“I don’t know. I did not receive any,” he said.
