GEORGETOWN — March 10, 2020: Twelve policemen including a senior officer from the state headquarters were today arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged involvement in a scheme to protect overloaded lorries.

The cops from the traffic department were arrested in a special operation, with newly appointed MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirming this.

The suspects are expected to be charged tomorrow.

Last year, MACC arrested more than 70 Road Transport Department personnel in Penang who were believed to have collected bribes of between RM10,000 and RM36,000 each month to overlook lorries that had overloaded.
