KUALA LUMPUR – June 23, 2016: Residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) here will hold a peaceful assembly at Rimba Kiara at 11am on Sunday (June 26), to protest against a proposed high-rise development at their neighbourhood.
The assembly is being organised by TTDI Residents Associations (TTDI RA) to fight against the massive development on Pt. 9244 off Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad, a busy intersection close to the park.
According to notices issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the project is to provide affordable houses to those who live at a longhouse situated opposite the park.
“TTDI residents living within 200 metres from the boundary may make written objections within two weeks, ends on June 29,” the notice stated.
As the deadline of the objection draws to a close, TTDI RA has decided to take the chance to express their frustration through a peaceful picket.
Its president Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar told The Mole that the association is still preparing the official objection letter, which had been signed by scores of the residents who live within the stated radius.
Abdul Hafiz said, the association will firstly hold a townhall meeting with the residents on Saturday morning.
“At the meeting, we would like to explain to them of the contention and tell them the do’s and don’ts of the protest. It is going to be a peaceful walk,” he added.
Abdul Hafiz said the residents are only demanding the park to remain the way it is and are never against the redevelopment of the affected longhouse.
“We welcome the redevelopment as it was promised to the people of the longhouse years ago, before the government acquired Bukit Kiara.
“But, we only want the public park to remain as a park. The density of the development shouldn’t be more than the surrounding areas,” he added.
Member of TTDI RA Aida Marie Mohamad, said that the residents are unhappy as the project will surely affects the park.
She said, it is believed that the eight-storey service apartments will be build at the site, leaving many residents anxious of the outcomes of the project.
“Looking at the plot, the developer will probably leave some parts of the Rimba Kiara Park, but most of it will be gone,” she added.
Those who live in TTDI and passionate of the neighbourhood are invited to the townhall meeting on Saturday (June 25), at Tadika Diyana off Lorong Datuk Sulaiman 1, at 11am.
The protest will be held on Sunday (June 26) at the park, at 11am.
