Three local unis in emerging economies world top 100

KUALA LUMPUR — December 1, 2016: Three Malaysian universities have made it to the top 100 list of the 300 universities from 50 countries evaluated.

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS website, Universiti Putra Malaysia was at 89th place, a climb of 14 from the previous Emerging Economies University Rankings. Universiti Teknologi Petronas was at 91 and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at 100.

Next came Universiti Sains Malaysia at 114th and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia at 136th. Universiti Utara Malaysia made it to the 201-250 band and Universiti Teknologi MARA in the 251-300 band.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh tweeted to congratulate the universities, saying: “Congrats to our universities for achieving this. Keep it up, the hard work doesn’t end here – go for Top 100 and beyond. #SoaringUpwards.”

Among the countries in list are China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa. — Bernama
