BANGKOK — Dec. 5, 2019: Thailand is experiencing colder weather, as temperatures are forecast to drop to as low as 6 degrees Celsius in the far north, while a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius is forecast in the central region, including for Bangkok.
A strong high pressure system from China will cover Thailand, with temperatures expected to drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celcius and with strong winds likely in upper Thailand.
From Saturday to Monday the lowest temperature is expected over upper Thailand. Cold to very cold is likely in the north and northeast, with minimum temperatures ranging from 6 to 12 degrees Celsius.
“On mountain-tops’ very cold weather with isolated frost is expected with the minimum in the range of 1 to 8 degrees Celsius,” said Meteorological Department chief Somsak Khaosuwan
In the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the east, it is forecast to have colder weather with minimum temperatures ranging from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius.
“People should stay safe and keep healthy,” said Somsak.
Winter in Thailand started in mid-October and is expected to end in mid-February.
As the temperatures continue to drop in the north and northeast, locals and tourists flock to national parks and camping sites on mountain-tops to experience the cold weather.
At the Phu Chi Fah Forest National Park in Chiang Rai, officials said the number of visitors has increased significantly as many want to experience the cold temperature hovering between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius while at the Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai more than 10,000 visitors are expected in the coming weekends. — Bernama
