KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 2020: Air travel between local destinations has surged to an average of 37,000 passengers per day over the first nine days of this month.
Malaysia Airports said in a statement today that daily aircraft movements at its airports have also increased to to an average of 550 over the same period.
The daily average for the last nine days in June stood at 18,650 passengers and 290 aircraft movements.
The figures mainly represent domestic traffic movements as international borders are yet to be fully opened due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malaysia Airports said it was a positive sign of gradual recovery for the country’s aviation industry.
It also gave the assurance that safety of travellers would be its main priority in restoring confidence in air travel.
Safety measures implemented at its airports include facial recognition, self check-in and bag drops, contactless security screening and automated disinfection using ultra violet light.
