KUALA LUMPUR — July 8, 2019: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak gave an instruction via a middleman to expedite issuing a government guarantee for the first loan of RM2 billion to SRC International Sdn. Bhd.
Former finance ministry officer Datuk Maliami Hamad testified today about being pressured to prepare the papers for a Cabinet meeting in August 2011.
The instructions were received not only came from SRC but also Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, who Maliami claimed had received instructions from Najib.
“I also received the same instruction from now deceased Datuk Azlin Alias, who was then the prime minister’s principal private secretary.
“I believe the instruction from Datuk Azlin came direct from the prime minister,” said Maliami when reading his witness statement in the trial involving Najib, who is charged with seven counts of misappropriation of SRC funds totalling RM42 million.
Maliami said the instructions were verbal to ensure the paper was prepared immediately.
“All the instructions I handed down to my subordinates. I instructed Puan Afidah Azwa Abdul Aziz (a deputy division secretary who testified several days ago) to ensure the papers were prepared for consideration and signed by Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop (then Minister in the PM’s Department) on the same day.”
After the papers were completed, the draft was submitted to Tan Sri Nor Mohamed. He signed it.
