KUALA LUMPUR — July 10, 2019: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak ordered the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) to expedite the disbursement of a to SRC International Sdn. Bhd. in 2011 before the government’s guarantee letter had been issued and this was described by a retired senior Treasury officer as unusual.
Former Finance Ministry secretary-general cum KWAP chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, recalled that Najib gave the instruction via a telephone call regarding an SRC application for a loan of RM3.95 billion.
When asked by prosecutor Datuk Suhaimi Ibrahim why the order was followed, Wan Aziz said it was because the government was the guarantor of the loan and it had been approved by the Cabinet.
Najib, 66, is facing multiple charges involving RM42 million from SRC International.
