PUTRAJAYA — Feb. 27, 2020: The Dewan Rakyat will hold a special session on Monday to determine who will be Malaysia’s next prime minister.
This was the conclusion of the meeting between interim PM Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad today with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara.
The Agong had on Tuesday and yesterday met with all Members of Parliament to determine who had the majority support to be the next PM but the personal interviews failed to come up with a candidate with a clear majority.
As a result the Agong decided that the right forum to decide should be the Dewan Rakyat. If this forum still fails to produce a clear “winner”, snap elections will follow.
Mahathir also confirmed today that he had decided to become Pribumi Bersatu chairman again after quitting last Monday, also the day he quit as PM.
He will consult with party members to determine if Pribumi Bersatu would rejoin the Pakatan Harapan ruling coalition.
