KUALA LUMPUR – March 6, 2018: He has received death threats for exposing alleged wrongdoings linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project but Datuk Huan Cheng Guan will not be swayed.

Huan is also credited with being the first to make noise about the bungalow bought by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng that was said to be at a special discounted price.

The former Royal Malaysian Air Force technician maintains that he gets to know about the indiscretions committed because whistleblowers trust him with their inside information.

“People tend to leave important documents in my mailbox because they know I won’t sit still if there is corruption in Penang,” he said in an interview with The Mole.

And since the issues he raised have mostly affected the DAP, Huan is widely said to be a Barisan Nasional sympathiser — a perception he assures is off the mark.

“I am an issue based man. If there are issues in Penang involving the government, you can count on me to raise them for public awareness,” he said.

When asked what drives him to do so, he said it was his concern for the future generation and the people of Penang.

“I don’t know how much longer can I live and I don’t want my grandchildren to think of me as a useless man who did nothing in the war against corruption,” said Huan.

“I don’t want to see my grandchildren suffer for the misdeeds of this generation. I would not let that happen…. not during my watch.”

The 57-year-old used to be a Gerakan vice-president before joining Parti Cinta Malaysia in 2009. He is now its vice-president.

He said he left Gerakan because of a difference in opinion with the leadership as he felt that issues should be raised regardless who is involved, adding that PCM has no intention of joining Barisan Nasional.
