Shazalli appointed Celcom Southeast Asia CEO

KUALA LUMPUR — July 14, 2016: Axiata Group has appointed Celcom Axiata Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly as its Southeast Asia CEO effective this September.

His current position will be filled by Robi Axiata Limited CEO Michael Kuehner.

Celcom and Robi are both subsidiaries of Axiata.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Axiata said Shazalli’s current tenure with the company, which expires by the year-end, will be extended for three years.

“Shazalli, who has been with Celcom for 11 years, will now be responsible for all Southeast Asia operations and will continue to be a member of the Celcom board.

“He will also be appointed to three other boards of Axiata’s operating companies,” it said.

On the regional operations, Axiata said Celcom would undertake a major organisational refresh with the set-up of an executive committee and appointment of six key senior positions — one from Celcom, three from the group, one external and one to be announced.
Celcom Chairman and Axiata Group CEO/President Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim will chair the exco.

Axiata had appointed Hans Wijayasuriya as the regional CEO for South Asia operations in January.

“As part of the our transformation, Axiata will accelerate our digitisation programmes, development of innovative technologies/business models, industry consolidation and merger integration, costs restructuring and support operating companies turnaround programmes,” said the statement.

Three CEOs and several senior appointments were made under the group’s structural changes, in addition to the appointment of the two regional CEOs. — Bernama
