KUALA LUMPUR — January 6, 2017: Johor Bahru member of parliament Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has been appointed the new chairman of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).
He replaces Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad who was appointed in 2011 but remains as Felda Global Ventures’ chairman.
In announcing he appointment today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Shahrir brings with him vast experience in government administration, after having served as minister in three portfolios.
In his chequered career, Shahrir had also been the chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board and the Public Accounts Committee.
Najib said that under this new arrangement, there will be division of responsibility for the welfare and socio-economy of settlers and Felda’s businesses. –Bernama
