KOTA KINABALU — Oct. 20, 2017: Former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd. Shafie Apdal has been remanded for four days from today for investigations into the alleged misappropriation of about RM1.5 billion for rural projects in Sabah.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus issued the order for Shafie, 60, to be remanded following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Shafie, the Parti Warisan Sabah president, was arrested last night after he had gone to the MACC office to give his statement.
Also remanded, for six days, is civil engineer Amarjit Singh, also a consultant of a company. He was also arrested at the Sabah MACC office yesterday.
To date a total of 11 people people have been detained relating to the investigations, including Shafie’s younger brothers, Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Yusof and Hamid. — Bernama
