KUALA LUMPUR — Aug. 4, 2020: A former assistant to a VIP wife was said to have demanded money from a company managing director to perform the umrah (minor pilgrimage) with his family.

According to businessman Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah, he persuaded Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin to oblige since it was for a religious purpose.

Jepak Holdings is the company awarded a big project under the education ministry to supply solar energy to Sarawak schools at end 2016. It is embroiled in the trial of Datin Rosmah Mansor, wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who faces three counts of allegedly soliciting RM187.5 million from Saidi as an inducement to help the company secure the project.

She is also accused of receiving RM6.5 million from Saidi between 2016 and 2017.

The aide implicated by Rayyan was Rizal Mansor who was initially charged with Rosmah but had the case against him withdrawn by the prosecution early this year.

The project was subsequently aborted despite the government having made about RM100 million in progress payments.

Hearing before Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan continues.
