PUTRAJAYA, July 7 2017 : The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has called for the re-election of DAP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) members that are legitimate and transparent which will enable the party’s delegates to choose 20 new legally-recognised CEC members.
According to RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah, the previous appointment of 20 CEC members and the party’s key office bearers on Sept 29, 2013, was in breach of the law.
He explained that the re-election should be based on the list of delegates who had the right to attend and vote in DAP’s CEC poll dated Dec 15, 2012, which involved 2,576 delegates from 865 branches.
“Only legitimate CEC members can appoint key office-bearers who are recognised under the Societies Act 1966 and the party’s constitution,” he said in a statement here today.
He said the move was legally crucial as key party representatives were authorised to sign candidacy appointment letters that were recognised by the Election Commission.
Mohammad Razin said this when commenting on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement on Monday after meeting with RoS regarding the issue including statements made by DAP leaders on the status of CEC’s re-election.
In the meeting, Ahmad Zahid also urged the RoS to take action based on the Societies Act 1966 and DAP’s constitution.
”RoS will issue an order to DAP to carry out the CEC re-election. However, we consider DAP as a legitimate party and has no intention of de-registering it,” he added. – Bernama
