TEMERLOH — April 2, 2018: A total of 33,523 Risda smallholders will receive dividends of RM112.33 million or 5.17 per cent higher than last year.
Some RM39.59 million is for distribution to 16,080 participants of the Clustered New Plantation Scheme and the rest for 17,443 participants of the Commercial Replanting Scheme.
The payout was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the national-level presentation of the agency’s dividends at the municipal council here.
Najib expressed pride in the achievements of Risda which was launched by his father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein on February 8, 1973, to help raise the living standard of smallholders.
After starting with the management of replanting on 40,872 hectares involving 15,048 smallholders, Risda now loo9ks after 1.01 million hectares worked on by 552,543 smallholders.
Najib spoke on the increase in the Risda Community Developers’ allowance of between RM300 and RM500 in 2012 to RM800 in 2014.
He also referred to the RM10 million allocation for the Young Generation of Smallholders Programme in Budget 2014, approval for the increase in rubber replanting grants in Peninsular Malaysia to RM9,230 per hectare compared to RM7,000 previously and a housing subsidy of RM20,000 under the Rumah Bina Negara programme for second-generation Risda smallholders. — Bernama
