KUALA LUMPUR — May 18, 2015: Petronas will begin the start-up of its Rapid refinery and petrochemical complex in Johor by mid-2019.

This was stated today by Petronas president and group chief executive Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

“The start-up will be in mid-2019. That is the current schedule,” he said at the CEO strategic dialogue at the Asia oil and gas conference here. Last year, Petronas said it was scheduled to kick start the refinery’s operations by early 2019.

Wan Zulkiflee was replying to a question from the floor on updates on Rapid and awards of contracts under the development.

He also said that the national oil and gas company had awarded all infrastructure and refinery contracts to reputable engineering, procurement and
construction contractors.

However, the petrochemical portion contracts have yet to be fully awarded although the cracker package has been awarded. — Bernama
