KUALA LUMPUR — May 28, 2020: Former federal minister Tan Sri Rais Yatim, now a Pribumi Bersatu Negri Sembilan chief, wants Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to stop politicking and instead focus on helping to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
When he was in Umno, Rais stuck to Mahathir’s side when the latter had his differences with his successor as PM, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
According to Rais, Mahathir was hitting out at his own party and suggested that Mahathir should just make peace. (Pribumi Bersatu has sacked Mahathir and four others with immediate effect.)
“It looks like Tun Mahathir is still at it pushing politics. His own party. He is hitting more in politics than assisting in containing the Covid-19 pandemic which have taken hundreds of Malaysian lives.
“Please Tun enough of it. Make peace. Practise the values Tun has taught us before,” Rais tweeted.
Even within Pribumi Bersatu before this, Rais had for the most part openly voiced his support for Mahathir, to the extent of saying in late February that he saw Mahathir as a wise man who would and should know the consequences of his actions and decisions.
