KUALA LUMPUR — July 17, 2017: A Bank Negara survey has shown that some borrowers who refuse to repay their PTPTN loans are actually able to settle their car and housing loans.

This means those who borrowed from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) are in fact earning a steady income but choose not to repay their debts.

“Bank Negara officials met up with me to show the findings of the survey. It reveals that people who have not paid their PTPTN loans are able to pay for their car and housing loans as well as credit cards.

“This is happening because they just refuse to do so.… not that they can’t afford it,” said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh at a students programme here yesterday.

He said this in reply to a question if it was justified for Bank Negara to blacklist PTPTN borrowers.

Idris said PTPTN should act firmly against those who have defaulted on the loan but without jeopardising their future. — Bernama
