Proton’s X70 launches on Dec 12

KUALA LUMPUR — November 23, 2018: National carmaker, Proton Holdings Bhd is set to launch its maiden sport utility vehicle (SUV), the X70, three weeks from now at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here.

In a statement issued yesterday, Proton Edar chief executive officer Abdul Rashid Musa said the December 12 launching also entails an immediate delivery of the X70 to those who pre-booked the SUV.

“We will also be starting delivery of customers’ cars immediately after the launch so those who have shown faith in us by booking their units early will be rewarded,” read Rashid’s statement.

As of late last month, the X70 has received over 10,000 bookings since its order taking started on Sept 8.

The X70 is also Proton’s first joint-venture vehicle with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group following their partnership in June last year in which the latter acquired a 49.9 per cent equity stake in Proton which is owned by DRB-HICOM.

The X70, which is based on the facelifted Geely Boyue, will be offered in Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Executive AWD and Premium 2WD variants. All are powered by a 1.8 litre turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder petrol engine.

The SUV comes in colours which are Flame Red, White, Cinnamon Brown, Armour Silver and Jet Grey. It also sports an eight-inch touchscreen and voice-control with artificial intelligence.

The premium model sports the Advanced Driver Assistance System, consisting of autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and auto high beam features.
