KUALA LUMPUR — May 3, 2019: Proton once again returned to the top 2 best-selling brands with its sales surging by 75 per cent year-on year or 14.1 per cent month-on-month to 7,011 units in April, a feat last achieved in February 2016.
A company statement today said the strong performances by the Saga and X70 were the main drivers for the achievement but sales also received a boost following the launch of the 2019 Proton Iriz and Persona on April 23.
That was achieved despite a downturn in total industry volume that contracted by 6.2 per cent m-o-m, making Proton the only automotive brand ranked in the top five to record positive growth.
The Saga displaced the X70 as the best-selling Proton model, with 3,047 units sold in April — the first time it had breached the 3,000 unit barrier since August 2018.
The increase in sales was a reflection of the quality improvements that continue to be made to the car, as well as the increase in customer and sales service quality at 79 3S/4S outlets, the most of any original equipment manufacturer in Malaysia, in Proton’s sales network, said the statement.
The X70 remains the best-selling sport utility vehicle in Malaysia so far, taking up 24 per cent share of the overall segment. A total of 11,133 units have been delivered so far. — Bernama
