SHAH ALAM — Aug. 9, 2018: Proton Edar expects the price of Proton vehicles to increase by between RM1,500 and RM3,000 when the Sales and Services Tax (SST) replaces the Goods and Services Tax from next month but the actual increase will only be known after the SST sets in.

However buyers can still book all Proton vehicles now as stocks are sufficient to meet demand during the transition period from the zero-rated GST to the SST but choices of variants and colours may be limited.

According to Proton Edar Chief Executive Officer Abdul Rashid Musa, the calculation of the increase is based on the price with the GST and the amount with the SST. He spoke to reporters after the Proton Wealth on Wheels (WOW) Challenge prize presentation today.

WOW, a collaboration between Proton and Grab Malaysia, requires the e-hailing service drivers to compete for the most fare collection with a single tank of fuel in their Proton cars in the Klang Valley without refuelling.

The competition was divided into three categories — namely Proton Iriz, Saga and Persona cars — with each winner taking home a sales voucher worth RM6,888 that can be used to buy a new Proton. –Bernama
