SHAH ALAM, 30 Dec 2017 : Pribumi Bersatu today held its first annual general meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre here.

A total of  941 delegates from 137 divisions attended the meeting.

Party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his policy speech urged members to be prepared for the coming general election and work with their counterparts from other Pakatan Harapan coalition parties to defeat Barisan Nasional.

The former prime minister pointed out that Pribumi Bersatu could not hope to achieve its main goal of toppling the BN government if it fails to cooperate with its allies in the opposition pact.

Dr Mahathir reiterated the party’s pledge to punish Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for alleged corruption once it comes to power.

“Officers who become rich too quickly will also be investigated by the Internal Revenue Board and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission so that they can explain their sudden wealth,” he added.

Dr Mahathir also listed down a host of measures to be taken by Pakatan Harapan if it could win the next general election which includes the possibility of reinstating capital control to strengthen the ringgit.

At the end of his speech, Dr Mahathir apologised for his past misdeeds.

“I, like other human beings, am not alone from saying and doing wrong. Not just today but for all the time that I have been involved in politics. I apologise for all the wrongs that I have done ,” said the 93-year-old.

Dr Mahathir had been criticised for not apologising for his crackdowns against Umno’s political opponents, who are now his allies in Pakatan Harapan when he was the prime minister.

Among those present were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

Earlier, Pribumi Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his speech, expressed the party’s support for Dr Mahathir to play a main role in Pakatan Harapan’s future government.

“We do not have a doubt that Dr Mahathir together with other Pakatan Harapan leaders will be able to place Malaysia on the right track,” Muhyiddin said.

At the meeting, the delegates unanimoulsy voted for Tasek Gelugor division chief Datuk Shariff Omar as permanent chairman and Kulim-Bandar Baharu division chief Datuk Azimi Daim as the deputy.

Prior to this, Pribumi Bersatu was warned by Registrar of Society for not holding its annual general meeting and naming its youth wing as “Armada”.
