KUALA LUMPUR — Jan. 22, 2019: Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem) expects its refinery to be ready for commercial operations by the fourth quarter of this year, after starting its refinery with the firing up of the crude distillation unit today.
A statement said that the refinery will provide feedstock for the integrated petrochemicals complex which has the capacity to produce 3.3 million tonnes per annum.
Upon completion, the PRefChem refinery will have a refining capacity of 300,000 barrels of crude per day and produce a range of refined petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel, which will also meet Euro 5 fuel specifications.
“From the start, the project has been an unprecedented undertaking for the industry in its scale, complexity and technology.
“We set ourselves to achieve this from ground up within 60 months and, today the refinery has achieved mechanical completion and is now in full commission,” said PRefChem chief executive officer Dr. Colin Wong. — Bernama
