Police raids net drugs worth RM144.9 million

KUALA LUMPUR — Jan. 15, 2020: Police on Monday seized about 1.5 tonnes of drugs worth RM144.9 million.

Seven local men, a local woman and an Indonesian woman were arrested during the raids in Sentul, Kepong and Selayang.

A team from the federal police Narcotic Crimes Investigation Department first raided a house in Desa Park City followed by an apartment in Residensi 1 Utara, Jalan Ipoh, and a condominium also at Desa Park City.

Seized were 637.72kgs of Ecstasy pills, 564.83kgs of Eramin 5 pills, 309.76kgs of syabu, 12.7kgs of heroin base and 6.5kgs of cocaine.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador told a press conference today that the drugs could be supplied to 6.5 million users.

Police also seized RM400,330 worth of the syndicate’s assets, including a Toyota Vellfire, cash, jewellery and two pistols with several 9mm bullets.

It was the first time police had managed to target a drug wholesaler who is believed to have used courier services to smuggle drugs.

According to Hamid, police will meet with 116 courier companies tomorrow to find a way to stop this practice.
