SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 2018 : Selangor police have denied arresting the two stepsons of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan in connection with his death as reported in several news portals.
Selangor Police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said up to today only two arrests were made in connection with the case, namely the victim’s wife and her former husband.
“I deny that police have arrested the victim’s two stepsons, so far no new arrests have been made,” he told a news conference here today.
He said this when commenting on news reports today that police had arrested Nazrin’s two stepsons last night when they were at their grandfather’s house.
Mazlan also declined to comment on the motive of the incident as he did not want to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
In the June 14 incident, Nazri, 45, was reported to have died of smoke inhalation from a fire that broke out in a room at his upper storey house in Mutiara Damansara.
At the time it was believed the fire that occurred past noon was caused by an explosion from the victim’s mobile phone that was being charged
However on Aug 3, Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat reclassified Nazrin’s death as murder after the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department found traces of petrol inside the victim’s burnt room.
Traces of petrol were found on his head, bed, mattress and mobile phone where Nazrin was found dead.
Following that, Nazrin’s widow and her former husband were arrested and remanded for seven days from Tuesday to facilitate investigations. – Bernama
