KUALA LUMPUR — June 5, 2018: Police has admitted to negligence of its personnel guarding maverick politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos who disappeared from a private hospital in Ampang last month.
Thus Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor has assured that the force would take stern action against those who were assigned to guard the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
Mazlan said police had also been in touch with Indonesia to help detect Jamal.
But in a voice recording which has been making its rounds on social media, Jamal taunted that the police need not get Interpol to track him down as he was still in the country.
“What I did was not a crime that could be of threat to the national security because it was just a minor offence,” he said in the two-minute recording.
Prior to this, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed that a warrant of arrest against Jamal had been issued by the Ampang Magistrate Court last Friday for escaping or resisting police custody.
Jamal was reported to be missing from the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on Friday after he was charged there with committing public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol at Bangunan Darul Ehsan in Shah Alam on October 5, 2017.
His disappearance was realised by the Shah Alam court assistant registrar who was handling the bail process for Jamal. — Bernama
