KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 2018 : Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there is no necessity for political parties to set up their respective branches in public universities (UA).
He said this was because university students now had the freedom of speech.
“You are free to talk as you like. No need for the respective political parties (to open up their branches),” he told reporters after the Conferment of Fellowship of the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM), here today.
He was asked to comment on the statement by Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik that political parties would be allowed to set up branches at the public universities when the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) were amended later. – Bernama
