KUALA LUMPUR – June 19, 2020: PKR has officially rejected the proposal to name Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for prime minister should the coalition become the federal government again.

Hence the party will continue with Pakatan’s previous consensus which decided on its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PM. Anwar is also the Pakatan chairman and recently officially named by the coalition as Parliamentary opposition leader.

“PKR however is still open to discuss with any party including Dr. Mahathir in order to save Malaysia and return the people’s mandate,” said the party in a statement today after a meeting.

Mahathir had on June 9 offered himself to be made PM for a third time for six months to rectify the damage allegedly inflicted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, after which he will hand over power to Anwar.

Yesterday Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution revealed that Mahathir had, at a meeting on June 13, asked for him to be allowed to hold the position for 12 months.
