SEPANG – July 25, 2018: The more efficient flight and processing procedures for those going on their pilgrimage now means that they do not need pre-departure accommodation.

The better system results in a transit time at the complex here of just a few hours, said Tabung Haji senior general manager Datuk Seri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman in reaction to a suggestion by Wanita Umno leader Datuk Noraini Ahmad that the agency reinstate the free accommodation service.

“We used to provide accommodation on a first come first served basis because there was a time when pilgrims were on transit at our complex for more than a day.

“But since three years ago we have improved the processes so that the transit time does not exceed three hours,” said Syed Saleh.

Including the complex here, there are eight departure stations in the country, from where the pilgrims are brought directly to the KL International Airport. Their transit period will take only two or three hours.

The departure points are in Alor Setar, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

So far there have been 24 flights to Saudi Arabia.
