KUALA LUMPUR — July 6, 2020: In a U-turn that shouldn’t surprise too many people, Pakatan Harapan is endorsing PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its prime minister candidate.
But it is also adamant that state governments under its control will not be dissolved if a snap election is called. Pakatan and its allies currently control Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan and Sabah.
A statement on this was jointly signed by Anwar, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, adding that Anwar has been given the mandate to discuss with all parties, including Sabah chief minister and Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
The statement is conspicuously silent on former PM Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who had earlier sounded like the coalition’s spokesman and had named Shafie as the PM nominee.
