MELAKA, June 6 2018 : Petronas Penapisan Melaka Sdn Bhd (PPMSB) has channelled RM175,300 to orphans, underprivilegedfamilies and schoolchildren in the state through the ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ Petronas programme in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.
According to PPMSB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hashim Majid, the Sentuhan Kasih programme implemented since 2005, was aimed at alleviating the burden of the underprivileged, in preparing for the festive celebration.
“This programme organised yearly in collaboration with Petronas Muslim Welfare Association (Bakip) is aimed at reaching out to the less fortunate during festive celebrations such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Gawai and Kaamatan festivals.
“This year, 200 PPMSB volunteers visited 120 families in Batu Tangga and Bukit Kati to hand over food items and RM250 cash to each family,” he said at a Petronas Ramadan programme here last night.
At the event 41 orphans from the Fatimah Al Zaharah Orphanage Complex, eight single mothers and five medically boarded PPMSB employees received donations of between RM150 and RM300 each.
He said under the Sentuhan Kasih programme, PPMSB had from time to time organised various activities in the state, among them the ‘All About Youth’ Petronas programme to encourage Form Four students to think creatively in presenting practical and innovative ideas which could benefit the local communities.
In addition he said, the Sentuhan Ilmu Petronas programme a long term, integrated and structured programme was also initiated to focus on enhancing students’ academic foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
“Some 140 Year Six pupils from six schools in the state attended the ‘UPSR BH Didik Clinic’ to help them prepare for their examinations and to improve the academic performance of Melaka schoolchildren.
“Under the Petronas Education Sponsorship programme, deserving students were given the opportunity to pursue studies locally and abroad,” he said. – Bernama
