KUALA LUMPUR — November 21, 2016: Petronas today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to build on a 24-year-partnership to enhance technical and vocational capabilities for Malaysian talents in the oil and gas industry.

Under the MoU, the Vocational Institution Sponsorship and Training Assistance or Vista programme will be extended to include Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Bintulu to join IKM Sungai Petani, IKM Tan Sri Yahaya Ahmad in Pekan, IKM Jasin and IKM Kota Kinabalu.

The MoU was signed by Petronas senior vice-president of group human resource management, Datuk Raiha Azni Abd. Rahman, and Mara’s deputy director-general (Education), Abd. Halim Abbas.

Raiha told the gathering that Petronas was pleased to strengthen its long-standing collaboration with Mara because through it, IKM students will be able to obtain valuable technical knowledge and training with good infrastructure.

“As a national oil and gas company, Petronas is steadfast in empowering the community through initiatives that focus on education, community development and wellbeing, as well as environment.

“This MoU is another effort to support our commitment towards the development of a market-ready future
workforce,” she said.

The commitment by Petronas — through its Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP) — includes the development of specific modules and syllabus for IKM Bintulu to upgrade its training programme and training sessions to its lecturers to enhance their capability.

Since the inception of VISTA in 1992, the programme has benefitted over 4,000 students.  — Bernama
