Petronas allocates RM134 million to sponsor outstanding 2016 SPM students

KUALA NERUS, June 18 2017 : Petronas under its Education Sponsorship Programme has allocated RM134 million to sponsor 353 students who obtained outstanding results in the 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

Of the total, RM8.8 million would be allocated for 54 students from Terengganu.

The sponsorship is for the students to pursue tertiary studies in various fields, among them chemical, petroleum and mechanical engineering and other oil and gas industry-related courses.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman presented the sponsorship witnessed by Petronas chairman, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan and its Group Human Resources Management senior vice president Raiha Azni Abd Rahman.

Meanwhile, Sidek in his speech said since 1975, Petronas had funded over 36,000 students to pursue higher studies at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and other leading universities abroad.

He added that the 353 students this year were selected from among 7,000 applicants nationwide. – Bernama
