PUTRAJAYA — April 8, 2015: The Election Commission has set May 7 as polling day for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election.
Nomination is on April 25 while early voting is on May 3.
The 2013 voters’ list will be used for the by-election combined with the additional third quarter of 2014 voters’ list and updated until April 1, 2015,
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd. Yusof told a press conference here today.
The voters’ list comprises 71,890 registered voters, of whom 71,252 are normal voters, 627 early voters and 11 postal voters.
The seat became vacant after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified as a member of Pprliament since March 16 after the Pardons Board rejected a petition for a pardon sought by his family over his conviction for sodomising a former aide.
Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail term at the Sungai Buloh prison.
In the 2013 general election, Anwar retained the seat by defeating Barisan Nasional’s Dr. Mazlan Ismail by 11,721-votes.
The Permatang Pauh by-election is the ninth after the 13th general election held on May 5, 2013.
Aziz said the EC has appointed Seberang Prai Tengah district and land officer as the returning officer, who would be assisted by six officers.
Nomination and vote tallying will be at the Bukit Mertajam National Youth Skills Institute. — Bernama
